The problem with Kylo Ren is that he's the kind of gullible idiot who believes his family when they tell him 'eighties romcoms are the height of romance and therefore, the way to go when acquiring a boyfriend.

It doesn't help, either, that Poe and Rey spend their time encouraging this dubious belief of Ren's. It's not like they're on the receiving end of Ren's romantic overtures.
