Gilderoy Lockhart slowly begins to recover in the following year or so after CoS.

He begins to retain new memories and thanks to adoration of fan Mail and kindly healers he genuinely believes in his own previous persona and exploits.

Not realising that he was a fake, Lockhart is disheartened and saddened by his apparent lack of skill when he tries his hand at spells as he recovers.

Determined to become “the man he once was” he engages in relentless self study and practice during his convalescence, becoming a talented duellist and very adaptable in spellcraft (his lack of memories potentially freeing up “space” in his brain which can now work much faster for short periods of time, giving him great insights and leaps of logic).

He leaves St Mungos and goes to “help” his apparent former protege and star pupil Harry Potter just as the Triwizard Cup comes to Hogwarts.

This would be a character piece where Gilderoy is our likeable and affable protagonist, who’s naïveté and new deductive brilliance make him a wizarding Sherlock who nevertheless has a very childlike quality to him, wanting only to be liked and to have friends.

His discovery (upon meeting Harry & Co) of who he ACTUALLY was breaks him badly, and shakes his resolve, however he ends up as Harry’s personal Tutor/Mentor during the events of the Triwizard Tournament. (С)пизженно
